GALVA - Phyllis J. Hustedt, 94, of Galva, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community of Storm Lake. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis Jeane Hustedt was welcomed home to her Lord on Jan. 26, 2025 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. She was born on March 9, 1930 to Herman and Alma (Lietz) Winterhof. She lived near Galva and was the last living member of the class of 1947 of Galva High School. After taking a business course at NBT in Sioux City, she worked for Iowa Public Service Co (IPS) in Storm Lake.

Phyllis married Alverne Hustedt on July 8, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva. They lived in Sparta, Wisconsin for a short time while Alverne was doing basic training at Ft. McCoy. When Alverne was serving in Germany, Phyllis returned to Storm Lake and worked for Dr. Lande. When he finished his duty, they moved to the family farm north of Galva in 1953, where they raised their three children.

Phyllis was a hardworking and devoted farm wife. Many evenings she would work until dusk finishing mowing or trimming hedges to perfection. She was also very involved in church activities, school events and other organizations, such as Ladies Aide, Auxiliary and the Blood Mobile. Phyllis dearly loved flowers and gardening, and tending to them gave her great joy. At night, she could usually be found sitting at the kitchen table reading all of the local papers, which she loved to do. Phyllis also enjoyed attending all the musical and sporting events that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in.

Phyllis stayed on the family farm after Alverne passed away in 1996. She moved to her father’s house in Galva in 2004. In 2019, she moved to Holstein Senior Living. In February 2023, Phyllis moved to Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Lanny Hustedt of Galva, Carol (Mark) Scoles of Spring Green, Wisconsin, and Randy Hustedt of Galva; six grandchildren, Travis (Melissa) Scoles, Sara (Todd) Krumholz, Joel (Jordan) Hustedt, Chad (Jennifer) Hustedt, Keith (Cori) Hustedt and Dana Hustedt; 12 great-grandchildren, Owen and Taylor Scoles, Harper and Joey Krumholz, Eve and Jett Hustedt, Paisley, Presley and Grady Hustedt and Kason, Scotti Lee and Kade Hustedt; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alverne; grandson, Brandon Scoles; daughter-in-law, Karla Hustedt; brother, Gaylen (Pat) Winterhof and sister-in-law, Sheryl Drury.

We would like to thank the staff at Methodist Manor and Holstein Senior Living for the loving care they gave our mother.
